Itís summertime, and it is uncharacteristically warm in Kent! Donít let the dog days of summer get you down though Ė Kent has plenty of places to stay cool. Here are three of our favorites:

Lake Meridian Park

This 16-acre park on 272nd Street is a popular respite from the summer heat. Complete with a swimming area, lifeguards (noon to 7 pm daily) and a boat launch, families can enjoy a picnic or BBQ on the lawn, hike on the trails, or take a dip in the lake. The park also features restrooms, showers, a concession stand, playground and a picnic shelter. This family favorite is also home to Kentís annual Fourth of July Splash celebration, Thursdays at the Lake evening concerts (7 to 8:30 pm), dragonboat races and the Lake Meridian Triathlon.

Town Square Plaza

Located at 2nd and Harrison Streets in downtown Kent, Town Square Plaza is a lovely, warm weather gathering spot for Kent residents and guests. In the summertime, the park features free summer concerts (Wednesdays at noon), the Kent Farmerís Market (Saturdays, 9 am to 2 pm), entertainment during Kent Cornucopia Days (July 9-12), water fountains and the Rotary sphere. Kids love splashing in the fountains and playing with the granite sphere, donated by Stuart Kendall of Seattle Solstice, the Rotary Club of Kent and the Rotary Club of Kent-Sunrise. Stop by at night to see the fountain lights change color!
