Do you know what REI, robots and roasting plants have in common?
Kent, Washington! That’s right. Robots will be used at the new Amazon
fulfillment center, one of Starbucks’ five roasting plants is here, and
REI is headquartered right in Kent. They are also part of what makes
Kent the fourth largest manufacturing and distribution center in the
These are among the many ways Kent contributes to the economy and
shows the ways we’re innovative, explained Mayor Suzette Cooke in her
annual State of the City address last month. In fact, the Kent Valley
alone is home to more than 50 aerospace companies, 60,000 jobs and 45
million square feet of space. Pretty impressive, isn’t it?
But there’s more – the first lunar rover was developed at the Boeing
Space Center in Kent, Amazon will utilize robots and drones in its new
facility, and former NASA scientists at LaserMotive are working on
technology to refuel drones in mid-light from lasers on the ground. All
right here in Kent.
Don’t take our word for it though. Come to Kent on April 30 to the Kent School District’s 2015 Technology Expo
at ShoWare Center. From 6 to 8:30 p.m., visitors can see first-hand how
local kids are preparing themselves for the workplace of the future.
Kent isn’t afraid of the future. We want to be a part of it. Come join us!
