Owned by two autistic artists, the Michael Tolleson Savant Art Center
(205 First Avenue South) opened earlier this year in downtown Kent.
This lovely gallery features the work of Michael Tolleson and Jack Carl
Anderson. In addition to the gallery and adjacent studios, the artists
host mentoring classes for autistic students. Located inside Titusville
Station, the gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 8 pm, and
Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm.
The gallery’s founder Tolleson is a savant, which he attributes to
Asperger’s and which gives him the ability to paint proficiently and
beautifully without formal training. Since he began painting in 2011,
Tolleson has painted more than 350 impressionistic pieces – each painted
in under an hour –featured in galleries throughout the Western U.S.
